The Town of Blackfalds is growing at a rate of around 4% a year, making it the fastest growing municipality in Canada for the past 5 years.

Now, they need more room for additional Town employees.

IMC Construction was awarded the tender at Tuesday's Town Council meeting, to renovate the downstairs program room in the Civic Centre, known as the Seniors Centre, for office use.

Both the Cheemo Club and the Blackfalds Parent Link moved into the Community Centre last year, leaving room in the basement of the Civic Centre.

Director of Community Services Sean Barnes says the new accommodations downstairs at the Civic Centre are to hold additional town workers, due to the ever increasing size of the community, and the demand for services.

“We are growing at a rapid pace, and we’ve hired additional staff, and we need to renovate the downstairs Cheemo Hall. We’ve moved the seniors over to the new community centre that we’ve expanded. We are going to move the Planning Department down there (Civic Centre), and we are going to provide 5 offices and a meeting room down there.”

Construction should begin in a couple of weeks, with the move in date to be sometime in November.
