The Women’s Outreach Centre in Red Deer will receive a whopping $1,640 thanks to Cilantro and Chive’s Burger of the Month for May.

The burger was called Blackbeard’s Delight, designed by the Central Alberta Buccaneers.

Eight hundred-twenty of them were sold last month, with two dollars for each sale going to the charity of the Buccaneers’ choice.

Darcy Ouellet is the fund development officer for Women’s Outreach and was presented with the proceeds by restauranteur Rieley Kay prior to the Buccaneers’ home opener on Saturday.

Ouellet says the money will go a long way.

“We’ve been busier than we’ve ever been. And things are a lot tighter so it will just add to events that we’re doing and help us to definitely achieve our budget for the year,” Ouellet says.

Buccaneers board member Michelle Rode says the choice of Women’s Outreach was a personal one for the team. She adds the team wanted to expand its community outside of Lacombe.

Blackbeard’s Delight was made with: an Alberta beef patty, watermelon rum barbecue sauce, Monterey Jack Cheese, bacon, pineapple salsa, Sriracha Aioli, tomato, butterleaf, with a deep-fried pickle* on a brioche bun.
