From ASIRT:

At approximately 10 p.m. on March 16, 2018, members of the Rocky Mountain House RCMP were pursuing a vehicle that had been reported stolen and had failed to stop for police.

After police laid a spike belt across the road, an RCMP member fired his service pistol at the vehicle.

Officers found the vehicle and later arrested a 28-year-old man who was believed to be driving. The man appeared unhurt.

ASIRT’s investigation continues. No further information will be publicly released until the investigation has been concluded.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person.

For the purposes of this mandate, this includes officer-involved shootings that would have likely resulted in serious injury or death if anyone was struck.
