From Cellophane to cellphones Lacombe golden agers have seen it all.

Stories were shared amongst seniors from Lacombe yesterday afternoon, celebrating the official kick-off of Seniors “55 Plus” Week.

Close to 50 residents attended the FCSS Memory Lance – 15 Years Café event at the LMC, where seniors got to reminisce about the “old days” over coffee and snacks.

Longtime Lacombe resident Alma Kamlah thinks back when she was younger and how things have changed, especially when it comes to technology.

“I see kids walking down the street and they are talking (on their phones) and they are both laughing. They’re texting each other,” she laughs.

She said although it’s not like it used to be, she’s doing her best to adapt.

“I have an iPad and a computer, so I’ve come a long way, but I have to check with my grandson to show me new things about it. He says ‘granny, you’re from the old school.”

Seniors Service’s Coordinator for Lacombe FCSS, Laree Rankin said there's been a lot of work put into the event, but believes it's all worth it.

“They donated money for different things like community centres or raise money for families in the community contributing to make our community great. They have paved the way for a lot of us and we forget that sometimes,” said Rankin.

Next on the list of events is Burman University’s “Fun Fitness,” held Tuesday at the Physical Education Centre from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and High Tea at Extended Care in the Lacombe Hospital from 2:30-4:00 p.m.
