A new park located on the east side of Gull Lake near Wilson's Beach is getting ready to open next month, with residents excited for some of the new features.

Along with the usual playground, the new 28 acre Anderson Park will include a disc golf course, a sand volleyball court, basketball hoops, a natural amphitheatre complete with musical instruments, and a paleontology pit where kids can dig up "real" dinosaur bones.

Phil Lodermeier is the Manager of Operations for Lacombe County, and he says the park is designed with the natural area in mind.

"Anderson Park is a great little park, we had the land donated to us by Mr. Jack Anderson, and he wanted it for public use, so we've been working on developing the park. Mostly we wanted a natural park, something that people could get out and enjoy nature. Everything we have done out there we have tried to incorporate a little bit of nature. We have pollinator parks that are going in this summer, bat houses, we've got our disc golf course out there, we're going to be putting in a basketball court, sand volleyball... and some playground musical instruments."

Lodermeier hopes the park will be open by late June or early July.
