January 12/17 - Red Deer RCMP would like to advise that the Great Pyrenees dog stolen in a Toyota Matrix the afternoon of January 11 is safe. While the car is still outstanding, RCMP have been notified that the dog was located at Animal Services later the same day.

RCMP continue to investigate the vehicle theft and thank the public for their assistance in locating the missing dog.


Red Deer RCMP are looking for public assistance to locate a stolen car and the Great Pyrenees dog that was in it when it was stolen this afternoon.


RCMP received a report at 12:30 pm today that a Toyota Matrix had been stolen while it was idling in a parking lot on 67 Street; a white Great Pyrenees breed dog was in the car when it was stolen.

RCMP do not know at this time if the dog remains with the car or if the thief put him out of it.

The Great Pyrenees is a large, fluffy white male dog, three years of age; he answers to the nickname “Fatty” and was wearing a lime-green leash at the time of the vehicle theft.

The dark grey 2013 Toyota Matrix is missing a hubcap on the front left and another on the rear right side. The license plate is Alberta BFV 1634.

Red Deer RCMP are asking the public to keep an eye out for the dog as well as the car.

If you locate the dog, please safeguard him and call RCMP immediately at 403-343-5575. RCMP continue to investigate.

If a photo of the dog becomes available, RCMP will issue an update containing it.
