There continues to be some fire bans in the area that you may want to take note of before we head into the weekend.

There is no longer any fire restrictions in the County of Lacombe or the City of Lacombe. There are not fire restrictions in the City of Red Deer, Town of Penhold, Town of Innisfail, and Sylvan Lake.

In both the Town and County of Ponoka and Clear Water County, there continues to be a fire advisory. Under this restriction the following is permitted:

  • Burns with approved permits
  • Internal House hold fire places
  • Incinerators
  • Burning barrels and fire pits with a screen in place.
  • Fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designed camping and recreational areas
  • Portable propane firepits and appliances.
  • BBQ’s and smokers using charcoals and pellets

As always it is important to ensure that a fire is properly extinguished.

In the County of Red Deer there is a fire restriction. As a result, all current burn permits have been cancelled in the Red Deer County.

Under this restriction, the following is still permitted:

  • Safe wood campfires
  • Backyard fire pits
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbeques
  • Catalytic or infrared style heaters
  • Safe wood campfires should be within metal, brick or a rock fire ring. They should also be on rock, gravel, sand, or another non-combustible surface.

It is recommended you always have a responsible person in attendance of the fire and have enough water on hand to extinguish the fire before leaving. It never recommended to leave a lit campfire unattended.

A fire ban is in effect for much of southern Alberta including Mountain View County. Under a fire ban, all outdoor fires and recreational fires not in an acceptable fire pit and fireworks are banned. No fire permits and firework permits will be issued at this time.
