If you know a family who may need a little help this Christmas, there are plenty of programs available in central Alberta to help out those in need.

Those programs also work together to make sure everyone receives help no one falls through the gaps.

The people at the Women's Outreach Centre in Red Deer mostly focus on single-parent homes and have their own Adopt a Family program going on right now.

Executive Director Barb Barber says they have plenty of options available for you to help out a person in need this Christmas.

“If they want to take the whole family and do some shopping and wrapping they can definitely do that. If people would like to just sponsor a family, we have volunteers that are ready willing and able to do the shopping and the wrapping for them.”

Barber says if you don't have the time to take your sponsored family food and gift shopping, they have volunteers that can fill that role and ensure every family has a Merry Christmas.

“We look at it as $125 per child, so that includes the gift and some food. If people are even able to sponsor one or two children, then we can just kind of collectively take everything, put it together and help out families out.”

As of Friday, December 14th, there were still at least 20 families needing sponsorships.
