500 radio stations across Canada are working to amplify the voices of Indgenous people with A Day to Listen in honour of National Indigenous History Month. From 6AM to 6PM the stories of Indigenous leaders, residential school survivors, elders, musicians, and teachers will be shared throughout the day. Locally, you can listen to those stories on Lacombe’s radio station, Sunny 94

“I think A Day to Listen is very important. As Canadians we need to take a look at ourselves and our history and take time to reflect on that,” said Darin Clark, Program Director for Sunny 94.

The collaboration follows the discovery of the remains of 215 children buried at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School in late May.  On June 24th, the unmarked graves of 751 Indigenous children were found at a former residential school in Saskatchewan.

“As the Program Director for Sunny 94, I'm very proud that as a team we are doing this. Hopefully, some good will come of this. I encourage everyone to check out the website,” said Clark.

The event is in partnership with the Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) has mission to creating a pathway towards reconciliation to improve and improve the lives of Indigenous people by building awareness, education, and connections between all Canadians.
