On November 26, 2016 at 8 p.m. the Thorsby/Breton RCMP, Brazeau County Fire Services, and EMS responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 39 and Range Road 52 near Breton, Alberta.

A late model Ford pick-up lost control and rolled into a guard rail.  

An 8 year old child, who was a passenger in the vehicle, succumbed to her injuries as a result of the collision. 

On January 6, 2017, after a thorough investigation into the incident, the Thorsby/Breton RCMP and RCMP Traffic Services Unit arrested the 40 year old female driver from Edmonton, Alberta.

She has been charged with:

1.   Impaired Driving over .08 Causing Death

2.   Impaired Driving Causing Death 

3.   Criminal Negligence Causing Death.             

The female was taken before a Justice of the Peace and released on bail. 

She is to appear at the Breton Provincial Court on February 8, 2017. 

The success of this investigation is attributed to multiple units of the RCMP along with numerous civilian witnesses who provided key evidence.

BACKGROUND:

 

On November 26, 2016 at 8 p.m. the Thorsby/Breton RCMP, Brazeau County Fire Services, and EMS responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 39 and Range Road 52 near Breton, Alberta.

A late model Ford pick-up had lost control and rolled into a guard rail.

On arrival it was discovered an 8 year old child had succumbed to her injuries as a result of the collision.  

The female driver also had significant injuries and was transported to an Edmonton area hospital for treatment.

With the assistance of the RCMP Collision analyst, the collision remains under investigation by the Thorsby/Breton RCMP.  

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or weather were factors in this collision.
