From March 19, 2017 to March 22, 2017, the RCMP Sundre detachment received numerous complaints of criminal activity occurring in rural locations NE of the Town of Sundre.

Three men were subsequently located, arrested and charged for numerous offences in relation to their victimization of property owners in that area.

The following is a time line of occurrences:

March 19th at 9:30AM, police were called to a property near RR50 and TWP334 where a red 2013 Dodge pickup truck had been stolen.

The truck contained approximately $7000 cash and a briefcase containing business documents.

A white 2017 BMW was recovered near River Road which contained evidence that related it to the theft of the Dodge pickup.

The BMW was reported stolen out of Calgary.


March 21st at 1:50PM, police were called to a property where the residence had been broken into and the home searched where several personal items were stolen.


March 21st at 5:00PM, a rural property owner reported that his 2005 grey Dodge pickup truck with a white topper was stolen from his residence.


March 22nd 3:53AM, police were called back to the residence that had the red 2013 Dodge pickup stolen to report that a white 2008 Chevrolet Malibu was stolen from their yard.

At 5:18AM, police were called by citizen’s reporting that the white Malibu and the grey Dodge pickup were located abandoned on TWP334 near RR50.

Prior to police arriving, the complainant stated that a lone male walked out of the bushes and entered the grey Dodge pickup and quickly departed that area.

The white Malibu was recovered by police.

At 8:49AM, several citizen’s called police to report that they located a lone male and were requesting police to attend.

The male was found by property owner’s who were driving around the area when they came upon the male walking on the road.

At 2:00PM, a complainant reported that there a suspicious male walking on a range road and appeared to be looking into driveways.

While police were patrolling the area for that person, they located a stolen 2014 white Jeep Grand Cherokee that had been reported stolen out of Calgary.

At 4:30PM, police had completed the recovery on the white jeep and while driving out of the area, they saw a grey Dodge pickup parked in a field near RR51 and TWP334.

A male was located sleeping inside of it and it was determined that the pickup was the one reported stolen to police the previous day.

At 7:00PM, provided with information from one of the two males in custody, police were provided with the location of the red Dodge pickup that was stolen on March 19th.

The vehicle was located and recovered.

At 9:42PM, Residents in the area reported a suspicious male that was walking on TWP334.

The male had been seen attempting to build a fire in the ditch in an attempt to warm himself.

The citizen’s called police and kept the male occupied until police arrived.

Police attended and the male was arrested.

A lot of credit goes out to the property owners in the area that were very vigilant and kept an eye out for suspicious activities and persons.

Their assistance is greatly appreciated and with their help, police were able to locate and arrest these men and the recover property that had been reported stolen.

The RCMP Sundre detachment encourages all Sundre residents to continue to report suspicious activities.

Bronson Palmantier (23) from Calgary, AB faces numerous criminal charges such as Possession of Stolen Property, Obstruction, Assault with Weapon x 2, Breach of Release Conditions and Possession of a Control Substance.

He was also charged provincially for trespassing.

Palmantier was remanded into custody to appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Didsbury on March 27th.

Daniel Stoffels (27) from Calgary, AB faces criminal charges for Possession of Stolen Property x 9, Breach of Release Conditions x 4.

Stoffels was remanded into custody to appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Didsbury on March 27th.

Derryck Gerbrandt (28) from Calgary, AB faces criminal charges for Possession of Stolen Property x 2 and Breach of Release Conditions.

Gerbrandt was remanded into custody to appear in Alberta Provincial Court in Disbury on April 3rd.
