In an effort to draw a clearer connection between the money tax payers pay, and where exactly that money goes, the City of Lacombe is developing a tax brochure to be sent out prior to 2018 taxes being due.

The brochure, called My Taxes at Work, was introduced at Monday’s council meeting, and will provide an easy to understand approach to where your tax dollars are going, says Community Services Director Brenda Vaughan.

"Municipal property taxes can be quite a complex subject and we were looking for a method to communicate to the public that drew a pretty strong connection between what a municipal tax payer is paying, and connecting that to the services they are receiving."

The brochure will include graphs breaking down expenses in the operating and capital budgets, as well as detailing how much tax money is used for utilities, and operation allocations.

It will also include information on how much is used on road way and sidewalk repair, public transit, library and cultural services, as well as breaking down exactly how much of your individual tax dollars are going to which service.

This is the first time the city has released tax information in a format like this.

Council will send out this brochure the same time they notify people about their taxes early next year.

It will be available on their website and via social media.

Physical copies will be provided to whoever requests them.
