The Blackfalds Wranglers scored the goals but couldn't find the stops, dropping a 7-5 decision to the High River Flyers on Sunday night in a game that saw a player from each team score a hat trick.

“We just got to be tighter in our (defensive) zone,” said Wranglers head coach Sean Neumeier. “In our D-zone, we’re just watching too much. We need to start taking away time and space. We’re just giving guys too much time and space and if you do that, they’re going to score seven on you. Live and learn, I guess.”

It was a big night offensively for the Wranglers’ Landon Siegle, scoring twice in the second period. His first goal came on a partial breakaway, crashing into Flyers goalie Dylan Jensen. On his second, he cut across the crease, faked out Jensen, then slid the puck on his forehand past Jensen’s left pad.

But despite his offensive outburst, it was the Flyers who led 5-4 after the second period.

The Flyers extended the lead in the third thanks to a goal from Connor Minchin mid-way through the third. Siegle responded by finishing the hat trick, cutting High River’s lead to 6-5.

After Ryan Chambers’ potentially game-tying goal was waived off due to goalie interference, Davis Sheldon completed his hat trick for the Flyers by scoring an empty-netter with under a minute to play.

The Wranglers outshot High River 49-33.

They play the next three games on the road, and return to Blackfalds on Dec. 3 to play the Okotoks Bisons.
