Action starts this morning (April 26th) at the 2018 Alberta Cup, with the top 2003-born male hockey players from across the province hitting the ice in Spruce Grove.

Jayden Henderson is a forward out of Sylvan Lake on team Central.

He says it'll be interesting to play on a team made up of players he normally faces during the regular season, playing for the Red Deer Rebels Bantam AAA.

“I pretty much know everyone, been rivals with a couple of them for a few years, it’ll be pretty cool to play with them all.”

Henderson says this will be his first big opportunity to be scouted for future prospects.

“It’s a showcase for WHL scouts to evaluate the players on their skills, scoring goals, and just overall how they play the game. I just want to bring my hockey level to the best I can and play at the highest level.”

Scouts are expected to be in attendance ahead of the WHL’s Bantam Draft.

A number of local players are suiting up for team Central, find the roster here.

The team has two games today, facing Northwest at 9:30 and Calgary North at 5:30, action continues through Sunday, schedules and results can be found here.
