Hockey Alberta has chosen Red Deer and the Sutter Fund Bantam Elite Chiefs to host for the women’s 2019 Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships.

The female athletes will be fourteen to fifteen years in age from all over Alberta. In total, there are five teams competing for a gold medal and to claim provincial victory.

“It’s the first time that they’ve ever all played together and getting to host provincial means that our season gets extended as well as the girls ended up beating the top-seeded team in the play-off round so that was pretty exciting for them,” says Connie Holbein, Provincial Chair who says the girls of the Sutter Fund Elite Chiefs are very excited.

“They’re really looking forward to getting to compete against other top female athletes from across Alberta as this is the highest level for female hockey in this age group in Alberta and that’s pretty exciting. Sometimes there are scouts and whatnot that come to these games or coaches from midget elite teams or midget triple AAA teams which help the girls get the opportunity to get put on those teams for next year.”

The tournament will be held from Thursday, March 21st to Sunday, March 24th and the games will be held at both the RDC Gary W. Harris Canada Winter Games Centre and the Collicut Centre.

The home opener will be held at the RDC Gary W. Harris Canada Winter Games Centre at 2:30 on Thursday, March 21st.
