From Red Deer College:

Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce their Athletes of the Week.

1. Abbi Galloway – Queens Soccer

Hometown – Red Deer, AB

Bachelor of Education Elementary (2nd year)

Abbi Galloway was a key contributor in the RDC Queens Soccer team’s 3-0 shutout victory against the Ambrose University Lions on Saturday. The gifted midfielder’s positive impact went beyond personal statistics. Galloway was effective on both sides of the ball, helping to transition the ball up field while also halting any potential offensive opportunities from the Lions. The second-year Bachelor of Education Elementary student was a positive leader, displaying an exceptional work ethic over the entire game. Along with being a generous teammate with ball distribution, the student-athlete from Red Deer added her own offensive pressure, recording two shots on Lions goalkeeper Janelle Reimer.

2. Gabriel Martins Fonseca – Kings Soccer

Hometown – Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil

Academic Upgrading (2nd year)

Gabriel Martins Fonseca was a force on the soccer pitch against the Ambrose University Lions this past Saturday. The talented midfielder helped lead the Red Deer College Kings to a 5-0 shutout victory. Fonseca, a second-year Academic Upgrading student, contributed back-to-back goals, striking in the 49th and 54th minute. He worked very efficiently converting on two of his three shots over the full 90 minutes played. Brazil’s Fonseca was also recognized as the Kings Player-of-the-Game for his outstanding effort.
