It was all smiles at Gull Lake Golf Course on Friday, as they held their seventh annual Sunny 94 Bionic Golf Tournament.

The tournament raised money for Human Organ Procurement and Exchange also known as HOPE, an arm of the University of Alberta Hospital Foundation.

Organizer Murray McRae Sunny 94 Bionic Golf Tournament explains.

“It takes care of all things transplant. Whether it’s lung, kidney, heart or corneal transplant, which is my personal problem, any of those things HOPE handles all of that in the province of Alberta and internationally.”

McRae said fundraisers like these are crucial to HOPE and aiding them in what they do.

“There was no real discussion about transplant issues and of course there is a lot of awful research that needs to be done. A transplant for a single patient for a corneal is worth more money than we’ve ever been able to raise in the golf tournament.”

“It isn’t a cheap process.”

McRae added at any given time there are usually 400 plus Albertans on a waiting list for a transplant, so more money raised, the better.

Funds raised from the tournament will be totaled later this week.
