Lacombe is among the 24 communities from coast to coast that will host a tour stop for Rogers Hometown Hockey™.

That tour presented by Scotiabank and Dodge promises a free two day festival featuring live entertainment, local celebrities, NHL alumni and an endless list of activities for families to enjoy, things like mock broadcasts, and ball hockey according to City of Lacombe Community Economic Development Manager Guy Lapointe.

In terms of logistics, Lapointe has some insight.

"The plan is to hopefully put that in our downtown core, feature our biggest asset, those beautiful buildings, and the nicely newly constructed mainstreet."

The tour stop for Lacombe is set for February 3rd and 4th.

That weekend will conclude with an outdoor viewing party of an NHL® game broadcast nationally, on Sportsnet™, Montreal versus Ottawa, hosted by Ron MacLean and Tara Slone.

It also means Lacombe will be featured on the weekly Sunday broadcast of Rogers Hometown Hockey™ on Sportsnet and Sportsnet NOW™.

Live from their mobile studio, MacLean and Slone host a pre-game, intermission, and post-game show highlighting local culture, hockey history and unique stories from each hometown.

Lapointe says it will be a great opportunity to shine a spotlight on some great local groups.

"Minor hockey is obviously a big focus, so we're working closely with them as well as ringette; both sports are very big within our community.  Hometown likes to go into the schools and bring hockey into the schools, so again outside of that festival and broadcast they'll be here earlier in the week and actually doing something with the schools, and of course it would be great to feature the old time Rockets as well as the Generals in terms of what we're offering for hockey within our community too."

Other Alberta stops include Airdrie, Spruce Grove and Canmore.  Red Deer had the pleasure of hosting a tour stop in the tours inaugural year in 2014.

Mark February 3rd and 4th on your calendar, it’s a weekend you won’t want to miss in Lacombe, let’s get set to make some hockey memories.
