The Red Deer Rigger Seniors Men’s baseball team came home from Nationals in Victoria with a bronze medal this weekend.

The Riggers lost to the eventual gold medal winners the Burnaby Bulldogs Sunday morning, and went on to face their provincial rival for bronze in the afternoon.

They defeated the Sherwood Park Athletics with a walk-off 9-8 win to capture the bronze.

Shortstop and player coach Jason Chatwood says he is really proud of how the team performed this year, and their great play set them up to head back to national’s next year.

“Top to bottom it was a really really good year. Lot of positives to build off for sure, like we ended up winning provincials, which means we clinched to come back to nationals next year which was huge for us. It was an awesome experience with the guys out in Victoria, team really came together, and it was a really good way to finish off the season with a bronze medal.”

That provincial win this year means they are Alberta’s number one seed heading into nationals next year, which will once again take place in Victoria.
