The MS Golf Classic was this past Monday (July 16th) at the Innisfail Golf Club, where golfers were treated to fun filled day of golf, silent auctions, contest and delicious food.

The total fundraising number is still being determined, but according to Events and Volunteer Coordinator with the MS Society Central Alberta Chapter Tammy Norris, she thinks they have a good chance of reaching or exceeding their fundraising goal of $42,000.

She explains exactly where the money goes.

“60% of the money raised goes to research on the disease. Research, of course, is absolutely important. They are always coming out with different or new drugs that will help with particular forms of MS. And 40% goes to those living with MS, so programs and services to help aid their day to day lives.”

Norris says those group sessions go a long way.

“I’ve visited a couple of those (group sessions) and they are hugely important to people living with MS to be able to sit and talk and engage with other people that know exactly what their day-to-day struggle is. We also have some funding available for different things like air conditioners, because when you live with that disease you can’t handle any type of heat at all.”

Despite the 30 degree weather, a handful of people living with MS came to the tournament on Monday to show their support.

At least 80 golfers hit the links for the tournament, including a team from Sunny 94.

Norris hopes to get over 100 golfers out next year for their 20th edition of the MS Golf Classic.
