A local pole vaulter placed 3rd at the U20 Pan American Games in Peru on Friday.

Rachel Hyink qualified for the games with a personal best of 3.83 meters back on June 30th in Edmonton at the The Universiade Pavilion, better known as the Butterdome.

And on Friday, she beat that personal best with a 4m vault, which landed her in third place at the games in Peru.

Her parents, as well as everyone at the Artistique Gym Club are very proud of her.

Hyink will now be heading to Winnipeg to represent Alberta at the Canada Summer Games from July 28th until August 13th.

Hyink is from Lacombe, and trains at the Edmonton International Track Club (U of A), with her coach Mark Cocks.
