This latest cold snap and the dump of snow over the Easter long weekend has left local golf courses in a bit of a holding pattern when it comes to the new season.

General Manager and Head Golf Professional at the Lacombe Golf and Country Club, Kevin Broderson says with no temperatures at all in the forecast on the plus side, they are facing a significant delay.

“This will be one of our latest starts that I can remember, 2016 I think we opened on April 6th”.

He notes instead, conditions with the fresh snow have been ideal for those hitting the cross country ski trails on the course.

Normal preparations are at a standstill.

“We would be right in the peak of getting our crew out there, getting things cleaned up on the golf course and ready for golfers, but now that’s tough to do with the amount of snow out there”.

Depending on what Mother Nature has in store, Broderson says they may need to consider moving back their opening events which are scheduled in May.

On the bright side, the GM notes at last check, the greens were in great condition thanks to the added moisture.
