You can count on one hand the amount of Generals games Brent and Sue Sage have missed since the team made the move to Lacombe permanently last season….and that includes road games.

Not only does the couple love coming out and watching the exciting hockey, Brent says they’d been missing rooting for a local team.

“They’re the best hockey we’ve had in a long time. Since the Wranglers left for Blackfalds, we haven’t had a real senior program in town. I mean 3 Allan Cups, it’s good to have the best team in the country come to our town.”

For Sue a local business owner, it’s also about sticking with her local mentality.

“We’re big supporters of shop local support local, and you can’t tell people to do it unless you do it yourself. You have to stand up and lead by example.”

The Sages have also noticed that there has never been a better time to watch than right now.

“There’s more parity in the league now. Rosetown is hosting the Allan Cup this year and we keep splitting games with them, and they’re always great to watch. Stony’s always another fun team to play and watch, and of course Innisfail is always a great rivalry.”

“We’ve had two games in a row that went to shootout this year” adds Sage. “Those are the nail biter games I don’t like always being on the edge of my seat for, but they make for great hockey.”

So what would they say to someone who hasn’t made it out for a Generals game this year?

“Well if they like sports or hockey at all, they’re missing a great show. And the Generals give back to our town.”

The Gens next home action will come January 19th when they welcome the Stony Plain Eagles to town.
