One of the top curlers in the world makes his home right here in Lacombe and was recently asked to speak at the Lacombe Junior High to a group of excited students, some of which also share his passion for curling.

Darren Moulding is 3rd for the Brendan Bottcher rink, and together they won the Meridian Canadian Open Grand Slam event in North Battleford over the January 12th and 13th weekend.

With his team currently ranked 4th in the world, Moulding was happy to share his experiences and knowledge with the students.

“I try just to have a positive impact on the community, and if there is something I can do to help one of the kids find some passion for something, then I think that’s great.”

He's getting set to try and compete on the biggest curling stage in the world.

“We’ve got our provincial playdowns coming up and that’s to go to the Brier, and we’ve won them the last two years. This year will be especially tough because Kevin Koe is back in the playdowns this year, so it’ll be a good battle. They are the number #1 team in the world right now, and we’re #4.”

Moulding is also the head ice maker at both the Bentley and Lacombe curling clubs, and they are heading to their provincial playdowns in Edmonton on February 4th, for a chance to play for Team Alberta at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier.
