16 of the best high school handball players from all over Alberta will be in Lacombe this weekend, as the Bentley Panthers are hosting Tier 2 provincial championships.

Chair of the Tournament Stephen Lush says it's really an exciting sport to take in.

“It’s faster than hockey, you can make contact as long as it’s clean without getting a penalty. So it’s aggressive, it’s fast, it’s really high paced, it’s one of the fastest games I’ve ever watched played.”

Lush says the sport of European handball among junior and high school students is really gaining momentum in our province.

“The sport is growing. I mean we had 14 teams in zones two weeks ago, just in our central zone alone.”

Games started Friday morning and will be played at Lacombe Composite High School and Central Alberta Christian School, with the final games being on Saturday night.
