Seven girls from the Lacombe Ringette Association are in Fort McMurray this weekend, representing Zone 4 at the Alberta Winter Games.

Aspen Dorn is one of them, playing on the U-16 team. She said tryouts took place late last year.

She and her Zone 4 teammate Holland Wagensveld, who plays on the U-19 team, have been playing the sport for years.

“(It’s taught me) a lot responsibility because you have to make sure you manage school and ringette at the same time,” said Wagensveld.

Both are participating in their second Alberta Winter Games and want to play ringette for as long as possible.

“(Ringette has) helped me a lot with how I’m able to make my relationships work with my friends and .... I find it a lot easier to socialize with people since ringette,” Dorn said.

The full list of Lacombe players headed to the Games also includes: Faye Heindel, Erika Litwin, Hayleigh Malcolm, Taryn Miller, Sarah Hatto.
