The Lacombe Edge Ice Breaker Ringette Tournament is on once again this weekend, with 38 teams playing games all over Lacombe, Blackfalds, and Clive.

Co-chair of the tournament Nicole Plewis says team sports like ringette is hugely influential in the lives of young people.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for the girls just to build friendships, and it’s a really supportive environment for them where they just make friends and get to enjoy competition. It’s just a great opportunity for the kids to compete and have fun and meet people from all over the province, and hopefully, build some new friendships along the way.”

Plewis says this tournament is popular among ringette players as well as fans across Alberta.

“It’s a really well-attended event. We get lots of requests from teams to attend. It’s very busy, and it would be wonderful for the community to come out and check out this sport because it’s one that not everyone knows about. We’ve also invited classes, like a lot of our younger kids, we’ve invited their classes out on Friday to come and cheer on their classmates.”

The Ice Breaker Tournament kicks off Friday, November 16th at 8 am and goes until Sunday, November 18th, and features teams from all over central Alberta, as well as Edmonton and Calgary.

There will be a silent auction and raffle tickets available throughout the weekend.
