The Lacombe Generals beat the Stony Plain Eagles in the best of five series on February 16th in Stony Plain.

Despite the win, Jeff McInnis, General Manager for Lacombe believes the game was perhaps not their best play of the season and hopes to ramp up the energy for their upcoming series with the Innisfail Eagles.

“I don’t think either team would say that was their best game of the series. By that point in the series, the teams had figured each other out, and so it was more of a chess match than a grudge match. I felt like we played quite well until the end when we let in a couple goals in late to make it pretty close.”

The Generals finished the series with the Stony Plain with a score of 3-2.

Looking forward, McInnis anticipates a challenging, exciting, and well-matched series between Lacombe and Innisfail but added, “We will need to be a lot better in order to be successful.”

By now, the series teams have officially updated their rosters and the players added are here to stay.

“We’ve struggled with building that roster at times, just like we do most years but we’re very proud of what we have today and I think Innisfail should be proud of what they’ve got. They’ve been just doing wonderful, they’ve been winning a ton of their games, and they’re on a roll,” said Jeff.

The Generals hope to begin the series with a couple wins this weekend to get the leg up on the five-game series.

The series begins at the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex in Lacombe this weekend on Saturday, February 23rd at 7:45 PM, and Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 PM. Games three and four (if needed) will be in Innisfail and game five will be back in Lacombe if needed.
