Junior Golfers rejoice, as the kick off to the tour season in Central Alberta has begun.

The start of the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour was kicked off today at the Wolf Creek Golf Resort, with some top junior golfers, sponsors, and members of the media gathering for a chance to speak to some of the players, as well as participate in a round in the afternoon (this Sunny 94 reporter was unfortunately unable to play the round).

This is the 22nd year the tournament has been running, with tens of thousands of golfers joining in on the nearly 500 tournaments played over that period of time.

One of those golfers is 13-year-old Brooke Brezovski from Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club, who says she enjoys the independence that golf gives her.

"I like the individual part of golf. I like how it's all you, but in the good way. So it's when you make a mistake, you can really learn from it, yourself. And if you do good, you feel like you really earned it yourself."

Brezovski won the girls division of the 2016 Lacombe Junior Open, as well as finished 18th in the 2016 Alberta Juvenile Girls Championship.

Another golfer, 17-year-old Kaiden Nicholson from the Edmonton Country Club, also plays hockey, and he says he takes skills from golf and applies them to hockey.

"I've worked a lot on my control of emotions, and stuff like that. It just teaches you kind of, life lessons about being respectful and all of that kind of things, to your opponent, no matter if they are beating you or your winning, that kind of stuff".

Nicholson's credits include winning the 2016 Barrhead Junior Open on the Ross Junior Tour, and being a solo 3rd at the 2016 McLennan Ross Tour Championship.

The tour kicks off on May 27th in Drayton Valley, and will finish up on August 28th, with the Tour Championship back at Wolf Creek Golf Resort.
