The Blackfalds Wranglers defeated the Ponoka Stampeders 4-2 in what could possibly be a first round matchup in the HJHL playoffs.

This season, the Wranglers finished 2-1-1 against Ponoka.

“We have the season series, something we can hang our hat on a bit going into the playoffs,” said head coach Sean Neumeier. “But it’s going to be a tough first round if we get them. There’s still an outside chance we can get second (seed). That’s what we’re pushing for right now.”

The Wranglers had goals from Dylan Scheunert, Zane Bennett, Isaac Kingma and Austin Wilson.

For Kingma, a call-up from the affiliated Central Alberta AA Selects, it was his first goal in Junior B hockey.

“It’s pretty fun to come up, get affiliated and I’d do it again, for sure,” Kingma said. “Coming to Junior B, it’s bigger guys, a little faster … it’s fun to play.”

Four games remain for the Wranglers as they try to catch the second-place Airdrie Thunder. The two teams meet in Blackfalds on Feb. 6.
