The Lacombe Generals are the hottest team in the Allan Cup Hockey West division, and they’re looking to finish their season strong after enjoying a nice break over Christmas.

Coming off back to back weekend road wins their 5th and 6th straight, the Gens now have just 7 regular season games remaining.

Their terrific play of late has them 1 point back of the first place Rosetown Redwings, with a game in hand.

Forward Jesse Todd has been leading the way, and is in a 3 way tie for the league lead in points with 23.

Todd says the Generals have added even more depth, and the new faces around the locker room are a welcome addition to a team with expectations of making another Allan Cup.

“Our management finds good guys that fit in and do really well. So once they get their legs under them and get back to playing hockey, they’ve been off for a little while, but they’ll be great additions for our club.”

Todd, who helped the Generals win the Allan Cup in 2016, notes that in Senior Hockey, depth is a key piece that can push your team over the top.

“When you start to get into the playoffs in the Allan Cup it’s the depth that wins you games.  You can’t go into an Allan Cup with 3 lines, you need 4. So it’ll be huge to get those guys up to speed, and roll into playoffs with 4 lines and get used to that. We’ve been used to playing more with just 3 lines now, so getting that extra rest, then giving it everything you have when it is your time.”

The Generals road trip continues this weekend with games in Stony Plain on Saturday, and Fort Saskatchewan on Sunday.
