You'd be hard pressed to find a group that has a larger love for the sport of hockey, than the men who dedicate their weekends to lacing up the skates, and playing senior hockey.

There are no contracts, signing bonuses, or endorsement money being exchanged with these players, who have families and full time jobs outside of the rink.

They're out there for one reason, the love of the game.

For 2nd year Defenseman Tanner Korchinski, he'd heard many things about the Generals while playing in the ACAC with the Augustana Vikings, but didn’t think he’d end eventually end up on the team.

“I was kind of thinking it was time to go to work and be an adult. I kind of put hockey on the back-burner. Then when I got the call, it was hard to pass up the opportunity to play for the Generals.”

Korchinski says for him, being out on the ice is therapeutic.

“This is kind of what I look forward to all week. You know it’s just me, I don’t have kids or a family, so this is all I have right now. It’s kind of a get away from work and life, and I can be a kid again basically. Some say that’s living the dream, but I think it’s just fun.”

That fun has also led to a life changing experience, of traveling to the other side of our great nation to play in last year’s Allan Cup.

“I’d never been East of Kenora, Ontario, and going out East to Bouctouche, New Brunswick, was amazing. I had a blast, and I’ll never forget it. I think all my co-workers, friends and family are sick of me telling the stories. I’m hoping to go other places I’ve never been to before with the Generals. So I’m looking forward to the future.”

Korchinski and the Generals are prepped and ready for a heavyweight bout with a double header at home with the Rosetown Red Wings

The top two teams will square off Saturday night at 8, and again Sunday afternoon at 3.
