Ryan Tobler was the last head coach of the Bentley Generals before they made their move to Lacombe, and now he is making waves south of the border.

Before his stint with the Generals, he played for the Colorado Eagles of the Mountain Division in the East Coast Hockey League’s Western Conference.

Tobler spent seven seasons playing with the Eagles before hanging up his skates in 2010, having won two championships in 2005 and 2007.

In Eagles all time history, he has 416 points in 367 games, and had his #17 retired by the team back in 2015.

Now, Tobler is back with his old team, this time behind the bench, after coaching the Bentley Generals to their third Allan Cup victory in April of 2016.

The Colorado Eagles captured their first Kelly Cup championship on Monday, with a 2-1 win over the South Carolina Stingrays in game 4 of the 2017 Kelly Cup Finals at the North Charleston Coliseum in South Carolina.

It was the first sweep in the Kelly Cup finals since 2002, with the Eagles winning its final eight games of the postseason, tying for the fourth-longest playoff winning streak in ECHL history, with the Eagles six overtime wins during the playoffs setting a new league record.

Tobler says if it wasn't for the Generals giving him a chance to demonstrate his coaching abilities, he never would have been able to pick up the reigns for the Eagles.

"Obviously a big thank you, to their (Generals) organization, putting me in a spot to succeed here, and giving me the chance to be first the assistant, and then head couch with the Bentley/Lacombe organizations. Just a lot of major respect for Jeff McInnis and Wes Gyori and everybody involved with their group. And what can I say, back-to-back championships, so it's a really good time for me and my family".

Tobler’s Colorado Eagles team also features two local players, 23-year-old Sam Jardine back on defense, and 25-year-old Cam Maclise on right wing.

Tobler also played four games in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightning back in 2001.
