The 2nd annual 'Fight for Hope' up in Grande Prairie this past Saturday is shaping up to be a huge success, with the final fundraisers numbers still being counted, and all proceeds going towards the Kids with Cancer Society and the Ronald McDonald House.

Trevor MacKinnon’s 10-year-old son Logan of Lacombe participated in one of the charity matches, and even managed to raise the most money out of all the boxers. He fights out of the Red Deer Boxing Club, who also raised the most money for group or organization.

Trevor says it was fun and emotional weekend.

“We had unofficial weigh-ins on Friday night which was very touching; all the kids the boxers were fighting for were there running around. Saturday night, the kids were the ring girls and ring boys, and it was very touching. They were right up in the ring, every one of them. They didn’t even bat an eye jumping up and down the stairs and getting in the ring. Everyone had a great big smile on their face and lots of teary eyes.”

With over two thousand people filling the 140 dinner tables, MacKinnon said it was a huge success and plans are already in the works for next year’s event in a different place.

The boxers alone were able to raise $40,000, with the winner of the 50/50 giving $4,000 back to the night out of their $8,500 dollar winnings.

$1,500 dollars was awarded to Logan and $2,500 for the Red Deer Boxing Club, which will go towards new equipment and gym upgrades.
