After losing to the Red Deer Razorbacks 10-5 on Friday, the Lacombe Dodgers beat the Innisfail Trappers 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

Down 4-3 in the top of the seventh inning, shortstop Brian Smith hit a two-run homer giving them the lead, much to the delight of player-manager Andre Touchette.

“He’s one of the top hitters in the league so whenever we can get runners on for him, there’s always a chance that he can do something like that,” said Touchette.

Dodgers trailed for most of the game, but kept battling back with timely hitting.

However, Touchette credits the win to pitching.

“If it wasn’t for our pitchers sticking with us and grinding it out, then we wouldn’t have even had the opportunity.”

Dodgers get a chance at revenge when they travel to Red Deer with a game against the Razorbacks on Friday.
