With only one loss so far this season, the Lacombe Dodgers Midget AA baseball team is hoping to keep the momentum going after coming off a big tournament win this past weekend.

The Dodgers were in Unity, Saskatchewan from June 1st to the 3rd for a tournament and ended up winning the entire thing, defeating the host team in the finals after going undefeated in round robin play.

Dodgers coach Kevin Bresee says Unity is one of the best teams in the league with an impressive record, and were also one of the top teams last year.

“We ended up proving them (Unity) wrong. Our boys played very very good ball, and so did Unity. The games were fantastic to watch, coach, and I’m sure play in. They were really good.”

Bresee says their goal is to make it to the Western finals, something they came close to winning last year.

“We are trying to see if we are good enough to go to Westerns this year. Last year we missed winning Alberta by 5 outs actually, so this year hopefully with a little bit of luck we’ll get those 5 outs that we needed last year.”

They'll be playing Camrose this weekend, Okotoks next weekend, and back in Lacombe on the 19th to face the Camrose Cougars, the team that beat the Dodgers earlier this season.
