Lacombian Chantele Broderson has earned the title of National Champion.

Broderson and her Team Alberta teammates won the Canadian Junior Womans Curling Championships last weekend, coming down to the final rock in a 5-3 defeat of team Ontario.

Broderson says going into the 9th end they were tied without the hammer, a situation they've practiced a lot.

"We went into the end knowing that we needed two perfect guards, and we ended up playing pretty much 100 per cent that end. I've had a lot of people tell me that it was the best 10th end they've ever seen. So it's pretty crazy to end the tournament on such a high."

Broderson was named a Second Team All-Star, and said it meant a lot to have her play recognized.

"Pretty awesome. I really didn't win that award on my own though. I had some great line calls from Kristen, and awesome sweeping by Kate and Brenna. But I just wanted to go into the week and play the best that I could, and we all played great throughout the week. So it definitely wasn't just my All-Star award."

Broderson will be handing in her blue and yellow team Alberta colors for the red and white.

Something that she says hasn't quite sunk in yet.

"It's something that every Junior curler dreams about, and I've got to say it's a pretty amazing feeling. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about it.

Broderson and her teammates will now head to South Korea for the Worlds tournament that starts February 16th.

Her parents will also be making the trip to come watch and cheer her on.

Something she's very excited for.

Broderson adds despite a 17 hour time change and a 13 hour flight, she's excited to visit South Korea and that the travel should be their hardest obstacle to overcome, not the opponents they'll be facing.

"I think the first few days might be a little tough. But our coach has been to Worlds twice so she's dealt with grumpy girls dealing with a time change. And our team leader (Kristen Streifel) has been there before too. So I'm pretty confident in their ability."

They'll be leaving February 14th, with the Worlds running February 16th-26th in Gangneung.
