Blackfalds Wranglers forward Ryan Chambers came through in the clutch during his team's 4-3 victory over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings Sunday afternoon, scoring a buzzer beater in the third period to force overtime, then adding the game winner in the shootout.

"Just wanted to get up the ice as quickly as we could, get a shot on net and it worked out," Chambers said after the game.

Chambers said he took a glimpse at the clock as he wound up his shot. He beat Wheatland Kings goalie Indiana Kelly high, glove side.

"He has that knack," said head coach Sean Neumeier about the forward's penchant for big moments. "He scores big goals. I didn't think there was enough time there, coming up the ice and they proved me wrong. It was great."

Blackfalds' other two goals came in the second period. Early in the frame, forward Landon Siegle beat Kelly glove side on a breakaway. Late in the period defenceman Austin Rowe blasted a point shot through a sea of bodies in front of the net.

Rylan Bardick started the game in net for the Wranglers, stopping 40 of 43 Strathmore shots and four of five in the shootout.

Tempers flared after a scoreless first period, with frequent scrums between whistles.

Neumeier said he was happy with the Wranglers' penalty kill, but wants his team to be more disciplined.

The Wranglers also failed to capitalize on a number of scoring chances, he added, including a pair of 5-on-3 chances in the first period.

"Our power play refused to shoot for a bit there," he said. "We just have to start putting more pucks on net. We can't be as cute as we want to be out there."

It was the homeopener for the Wranglers, who started regular season play in Airdrie Firday night with a 4-1 loss to the Thunder.
