The Central Alberta Buccaneers were dominant from the opening kickoff in their home opener last Saturday, beating the Airdrie Irish 48-7 in their first game at Setters Place at Great Chief Park.

First play of the game, wide receiver Tanner Olstad returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown.

“Last week I had some good returns and coach (Devon Hand) just told me to hit it full speed and that’s just all I was thinking when I caught it,” Olstad said about the play.

Bucs quarterback Judah Knip threw for five touchdowns, connecting with Olstad, Josh Blanchard, Ben Hnatiuk, and twice with Preston Bailey.

It was a good bounce back game for the Bucs, who lost to the Fort McMurray Monarchs 32-10 the week before.

“This week we just came prepared. We knew what we wanted. Last week was just kind of getting off all the rust. Definitely this week we came with more of a purpose,” Olstad said.

The team hosts the Lloydminster Vandals next Saturday.
