Central Alberta Buccaneers will now call the new Setters Place at Great Chief Park their home field.

Friday the team announced they will be returning to Great Chief Park after 5 years playing at ME Global Athletic Park in Lacombe.

Buc's Co-Chair Vince Roth says it wasn't a decision they took lightly.

“Realized that in Red Deer we’ve got an opportunity to do things like have a beer garden at the field, and we’re just closer to more fans in Red Deer, we’ve got 100,000 people within 5 minutes of the field there, we’re hoping that basically that will attract more sponsors as well.  Ultimately it just came down to dollars and cents”.

Roth says they are grateful for the hospitality they received in Lacombe and hope to continue practicing at ME Global Athletic Park.

“Lacombe has been so great for us over the years, there’s great community support there, so it just wouldn’t be right for us to just pack up and leave on you guys, we definitely want to continue on with our community activities, our food drives and our work with the Bamford Society, we hope to continue running our practices and our spring camp and everything out in Lacombe as well as maybe doing some football camps and stuff like that with the youth”.

The team is currently hosting indoor workouts every week, spring camp will start up mid to late April and their 1st home game at the new Setters Place will be June 9th.

Setters Place hosted its grand opening January 20th.
