The Lacombe Athletic Park Association held its 8th annual fundraising gala Saturday night.

They continue to raise money for an outdoor basketball court, which will see construction start in May, as well as future projects.

But Saturday's Gala also came with a few surprise announcements as Marketing Director Darin Thompson explains “Gord Bamford sending us the video message tonight that he’s going to be playing at M.E. Global Athletic Park on July 1st, so Canada Day 150 we want everyone to come down to M.E. Global Athletic Park and celebrate it with us”.

Last year, the park was used the equivalent of 4 hours a week by every Lacombe resident.

Those stats are what keep them focused on their goal, according to Thompson “like Murray Cunningham our outgoing Chair said, it’s to play like the pros. We want to provide first class equipment and facilities for Lacombe and County and the biggest mandate for us to provide a reduced rate for our local users. So you can come and use the park, the park is open when the gates are open, you’re welcome to come if there’s not another event happening, and then you can also rent the facility at a rate that’s not going to break the bank”.

The Athletic Park Association were grateful for everyone who came out to support their efforts, and they were especially happy to see a few bidding wars for packages that included a trip to Montreal with Habs legend Gilbert Dionne, and a meet and greet with the Calgary Flames.
