Another winter has gone by, which means the Central Alberta Buccaneers are making their way out of hibernation.

Their spring camp starts tomorrow, with a busy season to follow and GM of the team, Vince Roth, is hoping that the season will bring together new and old players.

“I’m expecting a pretty good turnout and lots of returning players and hopefully we get a bunch of new faces and guys from other teams on the league coming to join us.”

The camp will run for 4 days over the next 2 weeks and will be capped off with the annual intra-squad game on May 3.

The season will be jam-packed, beginning at the end of May and continuing until the end of August with a game every Saturday.

“We kick off on the last Saturday of May and we play our regular season right through to August and that’s a game every Saturday for us unless it’s a long weekend, so yea it’s pretty busy.”

Some of the returning members were spotted in their jerseys doing a blood donation on Saturday over the long weekend, which is something Roth says they do regularly.

However, Roth says they pause over the summer to make sure they have enough in case of loss.

"During the season we like to keep our blood for ourselves because we might need it," he explains with a laugh, "but during the offseason, we like to help out as much as they can."

Anyone looking to get involved with the team can contact Roth over the Central Alberta Buccaneers Facebook page.
