The Blackfalds Wranglers have been steadily improving since the beginning of their season. The team started out with a few substantial losses but as the team improves, they've earned a couple more wins belt including the absolute decimation of the Bonnyville Pontiacs on Sunday, November 24th at the Blackfalds Multiplex.

The night before, the team defeated the Westlock Warriors 4-2 which Head Coach, Damon Dreeshen thinks was to blame for a bit of a slow start against the Pontiacs.

“I think that they had a little trouble finding their legs early. They played a really tough game last night in Westlock it was a rough one. So, I think it took a little bit for them to find their legs when they finally got some energy going, they didn’t look back,” explained Dreeshen.

The start of the game didn’t really suggest anything spectacular for the Wranglers. In fact, the Pontiacs took the lead at 3-1 in the first period.

In the second period, the Wranglers were a completely different team. After scoring their second goal about 5 minutes in, it seemed that the team realized that victory was just around the corner. By the end of the period, the Wranglers were ahead 5-3.

In the third period, the same energy continued. Goal after goal, the Wranglers racked up the points to finish the game ahead by a whopping score of 12-3.

The team scored during each powerplay of the game which was something that the team had been working on at practice.

Coach Dreeshen was overjoyed at the results of the weekend and perseverance of the team.

“Honestly, these guys have been really resilient. They don’t get down on themselves. They keep working really hard. They keep coming to practice they’ve been a really dedicated group and I think that’s kind of what has pulled us out of the slump,” said Dreeshen.

Goals were scored by the following players: two from Dallas Goodrunning, Justis Lowry, Nate Higgins, and Carter Sawicki. One from Eric Moltzahn, Anthony Pickering, Dusten Villeneuve, and Brady Porter.

Shots on net were 54-44 for the Wranglers.

Hopefully, the team’s success will continue as they hit the road for the next couple of games. The Wranglers will return to home ice on December 15th at the Blackfalds Multiplex against the Morinville Kings at 3:30 PM.
