From Red Deer College Athletics:

Red Deer College Athletics is proud to announce our Athletes of the Week.

Shayla Sklaruk – Queens Indoor Track

Hometown – Stony Plain, AB

Bachelor of Education Elementary (1st year)

Shayla had an excellent showing at Running Room Grand Prix #1, hosted by MacEwan University.

The first-year student-athlete was a key member of the RDC Queens Indoor Track team’s second place overall finish.

The talented runner from Stony Plain had an impressive first place finish in the 300 m race (43.51), over two and a half seconds faster than Shaunice Burgers of MacEwan University.

The Bachelor of Education Elementary student also placed second in the 60 m dash exhibition open (8.42), only two-tenths of a second out of top spot.

Shayla and her team will prepare for Running Room Grand Prix #2 on March 2, which will be the final competition before the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Indoor Track Championships from March 15-16 at Repsol Sport Centre in Calgary.

Dylan Thudium – Kings Hockey

Hometown – Sylvan Lake, AB

Bachelor of Business Administration General Management (4th year)

Dylan played an important role in helping the RDC Kings Hockey team defeat the Concordia University Thunder in back-to-back games this past weekend.

In Friday’s 4-1 victory, the Bachelor of Business Administration student recorded two goals, including what turned out to be the winning goal.

Then on Saturday, the fourth-year contributed two goals and one assist, helping lead the Kings to another 4-1 win.

Dylan’s first tally tied the game and his second marker ended up being the winning goal, once again.

He received the Kings Player-of-the-Game award on Saturday. With the two victories, the RDC Kings (13-5-1-1) remain near the top of a competitive ACAC Men’s Hockey league.
