The Central Alberta Buccaneers played their intra-squad game at MEGlobal Athletic Park in Lacombe last Saturday.

As the Bucs approach the start of the Alberta Football League season, head coach Fred Knip says their quarterback stable is a strength.

“The QB tandem is a dream. Judah (Knip) has come a long ways. He reads plays, he sees plays, he’s tall, he can run. And then we have Brandon Leyh, he’s got a bullet,” Knip said. “He stays in the pocket and he’s patient and he’ll throw 60 yards. And then we got Jarrett Burzak who’s also been incredibly positive.”

He's also up for the challenge that league re-alignment brings, as the Bucs find themselves in a division with Fort McMurray and St. Albert, the Alberta Football League's stronger teams.

“The trouble with if we play less-than upper echelon teams is, there’s a certain level of complacency that sometimes builds in,” he said.

Knip adds they have championship aspirations this year saying, “There’s no magic in small dreams so I’m looking to win nationals.”

The AFL season starts for the Bucs with a bye week on June 2. Their first game is June 9 at Setters Place at Great Chief Park.
