Red Deer Polytechnic Athletics added to its previous total of 172 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) team and individual titles on Saturday.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings and Queens Cross Country Running teams had solid outings at the ACAC Championships in Camrose. The Kings earned silver and the Queens wrapped up bronze. Both teams qualified for the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Cross Country Running National Championships. St. Mary’s University will host nationals on Saturday, November 13 in Calgary.

On the pitch, The Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Soccer team defeated the Concordia University Thunder 1-0, earning ACAC bronze. Estel Quinteros, a first-year Bachelor of Science Nursing student, scored the lone goal. She was named the North Star Sports Queens Player of the Game.

And the winning continued as The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Soccer team defeated the Lakeland College Rustlers for ACAC bronze. Kristofer Grobmeier, a Bachelor of Education Secondary student, tied the game 2-2 with seconds left in regulation time. All five of the Kings’ shooters converted on penalty kicks and Red Deer Polytechnic’s goalkeeper Jared St. Thomas thwarted the Rustlers’ second shooter, recording the victory.
