Red Deer seems to be a hot spot for sports this year, but for hockey in particular.

The 2019 and 2020 Alberta Cup tournament will be hosted at the Gary W. Harris Canada games Centre.

This year it will be held from April 24-28.

Michael Kraichy with Hockey Alberta says this opportunity is huge for players.

“All of the scouts and managers will be here to this event because were the final province to be holding our tournament prior to the draft.”

Regional camps are set for March 29-31 locations will be announced closer to the event; six teams will be chosen to play in the tournament.

“It’s strictly a hockey event, for these young men as well it is the last opportunity to showcase their talent before the WHL draft.”

The Western Hockey League draft and awards are also set to take place in Red Deer following the cup.

This isn’t just huge for players but also for support staff. The Alberta Cup will provide coaches, therapists, equipment managers, administrators and officials the opportunity for higher up positions.

Alberta Cup coach and trainer applications will be open the week of October 8.

“It will make for kind of a celebration of hockey.”
