UPDATE: 

Alberta RCMP are advising Highway 2 between Airdrie and Red Deer has extremely poor driving conditions. Motorists are asked to avoid travel in the area at this time.  

There are a number of motor vehicles in the ditch, as well as multiple collisions on Highway 2 near Olds and Ponoka. 

Northbound Highway 2 near Meniak Road is now closed and traffic is being rerouted to Highway 2A.

According to 511 Alberta, road conditions in Central Alberta range from bare and wet to snow covered with reduced visibility.

Highways to the south and west have the worst conditions.

If you are planning on heading towards the mountains this weekend, note that Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Highway 93 area from Lake Louise to Jasper.

With 5-10 cms of snow forecast for Saturday road conditions will deteriorate throughout  the rest of the day,.

Snow should taper off to just flurries overnight, but Sunday temperatures will fall to minus 15 in the afternoon.
