There is good news for procrastinators in the world, the deadline for filing income tax returns has been extended to Monday, May 2, 2022.

Returns will be considered filed on time if received on or before May 2, 2022, or if postmarked on or before May 2.

Since April 30 falls on a Saturday the CRA has decided to allow a little leeway.

Typically, the payment deadline is April 30 but again if the payment is received or processed at a financial institution on or before May 2, you will not be charged interest.

According to the CRA website, there are some new incentives and benefits to be aware of in the 2021-year including:

  • Canada workers benefit
  • Climate action incentive payment
  • Home office expenses
  • Zero-emission vehicles
  • Support for farmers
  • Educator School Supply Tax Credit
  • Northern residents' deductions
