Starting June 21st, part of Lakeshore Drive along Sylvan Lake will be closed for the Summer. After experimenting with this idea in 2020, it became popular for many guests and businesses at the beach. The main idea for closing a part of the busy street is to allow more space for visitors, a safer walking area for pedestrians away from traffic, and to promote the businesses along the beachfront area.

The closure allows for the Temporary Sidewalk Café Program and other cultural events. This program allows for businesses along the lake to expand their business space onto the sidewalk directly in front of their building, at their own cost.

Lakeshore Drive will be fully closed:

  • From 50 Street to 46 Street
  • June 21, 2022 - September 5, 2022
  • Please use the marked detours

Council amended and approved the budget allocation of $15,000 to $18,500 for the road closure program from the 2022 Operating Budget. Any extra funds will be used for Recreation, Culture, and Tourism to program the space, as presented in Report AIR-570.
